The unexpected turn from Business (Hons.) to Law
I started with a BBA honours in marketing at Christ Bangalore, but somewhere between business law classes, I realised law was the discipline that truly made me think. It was a profession built on constant learning, rigour, and purpose.
COVID gave me the rare pause to return to law school at Symbiosis, Pune (Class of 2024). Alongside marriage and a new life, with my husband's unwavering support, I completed my legal education and built a practice.

Why Tharani & Associates?
That belief eventually led to the founding of Tharani & Associates—a women-led, virtual-first legal firm built to make specialised legal services accessible to businesses, startups, organisations, and individuals, irrespective of where they are located. As a sole proprietorship, it reflects my belief that the legal profession is evolving alongside the digital world, and specialised legal services no longer need to remain confined within four office walls.
Today, my practice focuses on non-litigation legal services, including contract drafting and review, legal notices, non-litigation strategy, legal advisory, and POSH compliance.
I strongly believe many disputes can be prevented through thoughtful drafting, timely legal advice, effective communication, and practical legal strategy. For me, law has never been about documents—it has always been about solving problems before they require documents.
Why Bhopal, not Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai or Kolkata?
After working for a couple of years, I realised I wasn't finding the kind of professional environment that aligned with my aspirations. For someone living in a Tier-2 city, that can either become a limitation or an opportunity.
I chose to see it as an advantage. Instead of relocating to a metropolitan city, I decided to build my practice from Bhopal, using technology to bridge geographical barriers and serve clients across India.
I wanted to prove that the quality of legal work is never defined by a pin code. More importantly, this journey reinforced my belief that specialised, credible legal services can be built anywhere when the work speaks for itself.
Why women-led?
The idea behind the firm was deeply personal. In India, many working women are also running a home, and the two responsibilities rarely negotiate with each other kindly. While many talented women are compelled to pause or compromise their professional aspirations because life demands otherwise, I wanted to create the kind of opportunity I once wished existed for myself—one that allows women to continue building meaningful legal careers without choosing between their profession and personal responsibilities.
If this firm can create even a few such opportunities while delivering exceptional legal work, it will have fulfilled one of its most important purposes.
